The 1st XV extended their lead at the top of Durham Northumberland Division Three with this 39-23 home win against West Hartlepool TDSOB.

. 'Tech' looked to be a big well organised outfit and from the outset, having taken the first scrum against the head, pinned the seasiders onto the back foot but without being able to penetrate the home defence. Indeed in the first ten minutes Seaton only crossed the half way line twice but on the second occasion fly-half Craig Slaughter drilled a grubber kick through midfield. Tech were unable to control the wickedly bouncing ball and winger Stuart McLennan pounced for an unconverted try. There followed a further ten minute period mainly characterised by errors from both teams with Tech perhaps having the upper hand. This deadlock was broken by a twentieth minute three pointer from the boot of centre Lewis Humble and two minutes later Slaughter again broke through. With plenty of close support the ball went through several hands before full-back Jon Taylor crashed over and Humble slotted the extras. The visitors picked up their first score with a twenty fifth minute penalty but this was cancelled out when lock Murry Stockdale powered over from a line-out catch and drive to take a 20-3 lead into the interval.
The second half started in a similar vein to the first with Tech piling on the pressure but, with many players involved notably winger Harry Hazell, Seaton broke from their own twenty-two and lock Steven Wilson touched down for a forty-eighth minute try. Humble added the conversion. Two minutes later and once again involving many hands the hosts returned to the attack and Slaughter powered down the blindside wing for a score in the corner. Tech picked up their first try on the sixtieth minute but when Stockdale ran a searing line for his second touchdown and a 39-8 scoreline it looked to be all over for the visitors. Yet they powered over for three unconverted tries in the last fifteen minutes and had there been another ten minutes to play perhaps the result could have gone their way.
