The straight arrow delivers in this thrilling tale

The stage was set. The mighty twos feeling hot after their first win of their season travelled to Leeds Corinthians in search of another. The 2s were looking strong in the warm up with some great phrase play and attacking prowess. The ref then came over for a chat before the match, with a seemingly complete lack of knowledge about the rules despite his ‘twenty years’ experience of playing 12 for leos’. An unfortunate sign of things to come. Following an inspirational speech from Iyad, rivalling Aragorn at the Black Gates. The game kicked off and LMD started strong with some slick moves and soft tackling from Corinthians, fresher Toby bombed it down the wing and put LMD ahead. Try converted. 7-0 the boys. Despite LMD dominating the openings, Corinthians went for a hail mary kick to our try line which Dan McWilliams kindly dotted down for them. The ref clearly fearing the worst after an onslaught, despite Leeds Corinthians own coach confirming it wasn’t a try, awarded them the try. You wouldn’t even see this in Yorkshire 4. 7-7. Despite this little hiccup, LMD regained with some more great attacking phase play culminating in fresher Dillon forcing the ball over the line with some great running. Conversion made. 14-7. That brought the first half to an end and for a short spell in the second half, LMD’s dominance. Before LMD went through their most challenging period, fresher Toby after another fine move from the 2’s dotted down for a brace. Conversion supposedly made. 21-7. Later in the second half brought some very boring but effective rugby from Leeds Corinthians with their main outlet a 6’3, 110kilo wing turned number 8. After a scrum on LMD’s 5 metre, uncontested because Corinthians are boring blokes, Corinthians big man powered his way to the line. 21-14. Big shout out to our resident healthcare hero’s Nick Moore and Dec Dabrowski for coming to the aid of Corinthians number 6 from a nasty eyebrow cut. A man’s life was saved that day. Despite doing a degree in nursing, I didn’t fancy it. Despite their heroics, LMD were struggling under pressure and after another scrum, brought on by an unfortunate knock on where the ball didn’t actually go forwards by USA’s finest, fresher Jake. Corinthians 8 powered his way through again. Some more high quality refereeing. Conversion missed. 21-19. With 5 minutes to go, the Angle was within touching distance and back to back wins for the 2s was on the cards. After tremendous defending from the 2s, despite a line break from their prop keeping everyone on their toes, we turned the ball over and kicked it out. The day was ours and what a feeling it was. Back to back wins for the 2s. The day was then ruined when the assessor decided to kindly point out that the score was actually 19-19 and the ref had it wrong the whole time. Thanks a lot mate. Despite the confusion, the 2s still found it cause to Angle and what an angle it was. The future of LMD looks extremely bright.
