Chatteris Town 2 Cherry Hinton 1

Cherries put in a spirited performance at Chatteris Town on Saturday but were unable to bring any points home.

Peter Merry, Tony Beck, Rob Scrutton, Prescious, Jamie Clark, Ardened Hilder, Sam Morris and Joe Junkovic were all missing from the Matchday squad.

The first half was a fairly even affair with Jack Brand and Nicky Bell both going close for the Cherries. The defence was being marshalled superbly by Dan Jackson and Jake Crow but It was Chatteris who almost took the lead on the stroke of half time, Phil Peachey making a great save to keep the scores level going into the break.

Chatteris started the second half strongly and Ten minutes in took the lead. Craig Gillies running through on goal and neatly lobbing the ball over the advancing Peachey.

It got the worst for the Cherries on the Hour mark, Jack Steven receiving his second yellow card meaning he headed to the changing room and the Cherries were down to Ten men.

Cherries then emphasized the great team spirit on the day by scoring a equalizer after 70 minutes. The hardworking Tovey delivering a great cross which Bell was able to get on the end off and glance his header into the roof of the net!

To our credit you could not notice that the we were down to Ten men from the sideline but it was Chatteris who stole the points with 8 minutes left on the clock. Gary Smith with a neat finish into the roof of the net after some defensive hesitancy.

Mark Hobbs did have a late chance but failed to get his shot off in time and the defender cleared.

Next up for the Cherries is Wednesday night as we welcome Kershaw Premier Champions to Luard road playing fields for a 6.15pm KO.
