Match Preview

We are delighted to announce that Saturday 8th October will see the return of social rugby at Hemel, as the Camelot 3rd XV take on the Aylesbury (“Fat Lads”) 3rd XV at 3pm.

This match promises to showcase a standard of rugby you didn’t think it possible to reach at Chaulden Lane, the sloth-like speed and roar of trapped wind, matched only by the impossibility of 5XL men squeezing into 2XL shirts!

With only two actual backs in the Hemel side, we can expect an entirely forwards dominated game characterised by very little running to support a no-pod crash and carry game-plan! This typically involves Lee Wilmot having a fight with his skipper after grubber kicking in his own 22, Terry Hare hoarding the ball from 8 and no action whatsoever on the wings (sorry Deano!)

We can expect to see some uniquely 3rd XV infringements including “belly not releasing”, “fat is not an injury” and indecent exposure in the scrum and, with a light breeze forecast, we may see tears from the Hemel fly-half.

The purpose of the match is to resurrect social rugby after an enforced absence and with Herts CB in attendance we hope to create a format which can be rolled out countywide.

For those not travelling to Chiswick to support our 1st XV you are most welcome to come and support the 3s – God knows they need it!

Meet time: 11am for Lee Wilmot & Terry Hare, 1:15pm for everyone else!

Pre-match warm-up: Good luck, I wouldn’t risk it.

Referee: Simon Caplan, Herts Society of RFU Referees (Gluttons for punishment division) & survivor of the 2017 Battle of Mill Hill.

Medical Cover: Drs Cockburn & Beaver

Half-time refreshment: Port & canapes
