Bottesford Town defeat three goals to one despite taking the lead in the first half

The home side had a disappointing first period despite being the stronger side from the off, taking the lead with Jack McMenemy placing the ball in the back of the net in the thirty third minute. The table quickly turned with a goal from the visitors Shaun Mundy straight from the restart levelling the scores in the thirty fourth minute.

With Bottesford’s energy quickly dampened with the quickfire equaliser the visitors put on the pressure and just before the half time whistle the visitors Shaun Mundy scored his second goal putting Penistone in front in the forty fifth minute.

The second half carried on in the same style as the first half with sporadic attacks from the home side and Penistone creating the best chances. Bottesford substation Jordan Spencer replacing Martin Pembleton in the hope that fresh legs can level the scores.

Penistone was denied a penalty in the fifty third minute with a tumble in the home sides penalty box leaving Tommy Johnstone injured forcing Bottesford to make another substation bringing on Henry Cook.

Penistone seemed to be the better side in the second half having some fantastic breaks with numerous shots on and off target however goalkeeper David Birch denied any chances sent his way. Even with this top performance from the home sides goalkeeper, Penistone scored their third goal with a lobbed pass over Bottesford’s defence leaving Nathan Keightley one on one with the keeper whom placed it in the bottom corner of the net.

Bottesford dig deep to try regain control but denied a second goal with a powering shot from Wayne Graves twenty five yards out after a clearance header from Penistone with a fingertip save from the visitors goalkeeper.

With Penistone in front and less then ten minutes of play remaining, they make a substation in hope to secure the win. Within seconds the substitute Billy Law was one on one with the home sides goalkeeper David Birch who once again denied the visitors a goal with a fantastic save.

Four minutes added time and all hopes where lost for the home side as Penistone Hold possession in order to see it threw to the final whistle securing them the win.
