Work Commitments too much to carry on.

THANK YOU, CY ?

Berwick RFC can announce that Colin Young has decided to step down from his role as Head Coach due to work commitments, and as such this weekends home game against Lasswade will be his last in charge.

Following a successful playing career at Berwick, including captaining the First XV and winning the National Shield at Murrayfield, he retired from playing in 2012 and joined the coaching setup, before being named Head Coach in 2013, taking over the club in East League 2.

He led the First XV to back to back promotions in his first two seasons in charge, including winning the East 1 title in 2014/15, gaining promotion back to the National Leagues.

Undoubtedly the highlight of his tenure would be the 2018/19 50th Anniversary season where Berwick went undefeated, winning the East League 1 title, Border Shield and National Shield in a thrilling extra time win over Greenock at Murrayfield that everyone involved with the club will never forget.

Since then the First XV have gone on to be promoted to National 2 and safety in the league was secured following victory over Kirkcaldy a few weeks ago.

Overall, Colin has led the club from East 2 to Nat 2, overseeing four promotions, two league titles, two Border Shields and a National Shield in his 11 years in charge, an incredible record making him by far the clubs most successful Head Coach.

It’s near impossible to put into words the contribution Colin has made to Berwick RFC over the years. His commitment and love of the club has always been on display for all to see.

Everyone at the club wishes Colin all the best for the future. Colin has assured me that he will be back through the doors regularly but needs some time away from the game to focus on work and family for a while. We are very grateful for all that he has contributed so far and look forward to seeing him play a big part in the future again.

Thanks for everything, CY ?

An announcement about the coaching setup for next season will be made in the coming weeks so keep your eyes peeled for that.
